Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has 12 sports: Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Golf, Table Tennis, Tennis, Thumb Wrestling and Volleyball, plus three leisure sports — Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane. Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding are new. Jump Rope is a warm-up and isn't one of the 12. The main modes are Island Crown (single-player ladders), the Wuhu Island Sightseeing Tour, and online play (Casual, Pro League and Friend Lobby).
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched on October 22, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. It brings the series back to Wuhu Island with 12 motion-controlled sports and a much bigger focus on exploring the island itself.

The nine competitive sports
These are the sports you can climb in Island Crown and play in online matchmaking.
Archery

Basketball, Bowling, Golf, Tennis and Volleyball
These five came over from the previous game, Nintendo Switch Sports, with new touches:
- Bowling keeps the 100-Pin Bowling mode.
- Golf adds six new holes set on Wuhu Island.
- Tennis lets you choose hard, clay or grass courts.
- Volleyball adds a rhythm practice mode called "Bump to the Beat."
Boxing and Table Tennis

Both return from the Wii era, rebuilt for Joy-Con. Boxing now takes place in a ring on Wuhu Island and uses a Punch Gauge that starts full and drains with every swing. It's also the sport where Matt — the famously tough Mii from the original Wii Sports — waits as the Island Legend.
Thumb Wrestling (new)

You hold one Joy-Con in a thumbs-up grip with your thumb over the ZL or ZR trigger, then tilt left and right to pin your opponent's thumb. Reviewers found it quick and simple, with fewer extra modes than the other sports.
The three leisure sports
Leisure sports are how you get around Wuhu Island. Each one doubles as a way to travel in the Sightseeing Tour and has its own multiplayer race or battle.
| Leisure sport | Travels by | Multiplayer mode (reported) | Players |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prop Plane | Air | Ball Battle | Up to 4 |
| Power Cruising | Sea | Sea Sprint (10 courses) | Up to 4 |
| Skateboarding | Land | Skate Sprint (7 courses) | Up to 4 |

Skateboarding is the only sport that requires Joy-Con 2, because it uses the controller's mouse sensor. See our controller guide before buying extra controllers.
Jump Rope warm-up
Jump Rope is included as a warm-up activity. Nintendo mentions it separately from the 12 sports, so it isn't part of Island Crown or the sports count.
Game modes
| Mode | What it is | Players |
|---|---|---|
| Island Crown | Offline single-player ladders against CPU rivals, Island Champions and Island Legends | 1 |
| Sightseeing Tour | Explore Wuhu Island by plane, boat or skateboard and collect Spocco Photos | 1–2 (split-screen reported) |
| Local play | Any sport on one system | 1–4 |
| Casual Online Play | Relaxed matches worldwide in nine sports | Online |
| Pro League | Ranked online matches against similar-skill players | Online |
| Friend Lobby | Private online lobby | Up to 8 (2 per system) |
Spocco Points and the Item Center

Playing almost anything earns Spocco Points, the game's currency. You spend them at the Item Center on outfits and accessories for your Mii or Sportsmate. Nintendo says the Item Center offers two item collections each week, with new themed items every month. We're tracking each rotation in our upcoming Item Center guide.
